This university is incorporated in the state of Hawaii, USA. It is authorized to operate in Cameroon by the national commission on private higher education at the Ministry of higher education, yaounde, Cameroon.

SMU is affiliated with the accreditation commission of the transnational association of Christian colleges and schools (TRACS) is recognized by both the United States department of education and the council for higher education accreditation body for Christian institutions, colleges, universities and seminaries. TRACS is also a member of the international network for quality assurance agencies in higher education.
