It was founded by the Bishops of the Ecclesiastical Province of Bamenda in the name of the Catholic Church as a national institution of learning. It is an intellectual center of highest quality, where the relation between revealed truth and human truth can be examined.

It became fully operational in October 2011. For its one year of experience it has proven its worth in its temporal site at big Mankon, Cathedral.

It is a free and autonomous centre of learning. It is also a missionary enterprise belonging to the Catholic Church for evangelization and to provide for the common good of the human society. It constantly ensures the cultivation and impartation of an understanding of the Christian faith within the context of all forms of human inquiry and values.

It is committed to the graduate and undergraduate and professional institutions in both the arts and sciences. It is aimed at achieving and maintaining leading position among Catholic, lay private and government institutions.
